Rules
Last updated 7 October 2026.
Discuss is for talking about Singapore, and about Platform.SG's apps. Moderators read what people post and act on it by hand. These are the rules they use.
Who can post
Discuss is for people 18 and over. Anyone can read it. To post, reply, mark something useful, save or report, sign in with a Platform.SG account and choose a username: letters and numbers, 3 to 20 of them. Choosing one confirms you are 18 or over and agree to these rules and the privacy notice. A username can't be changed later.
You can post as yourself, or as a team you belong to. A post appears as soon as you send it. Its title can be up to 200 characters, and its words up to 10,000. It can carry up to 4 images, PNG or JPEG, 5 MB each. Every image waits for a moderator before anyone else sees it.
What may not be posted
When a moderator removes a post, a reply or an image, they name one of these rules, and you are told which:
- Be civil. Disagree with what people say, not with them. No insults, threats or hate.
- No personal details. No unit numbers, phone numbers, NRIC or anything else that points at a private person.
- No politics for now. Discuss isn't open to politics yet.
- Spam or advertising. No adverts, promotion or the same thing posted over and over.
- Not about this board. Post where it belongs. A moderator may move a post to the right board instead; you are told.
- Something else. For what the others don't cover. The moderator can say more in a note to you.
Each board's rules
Each board shows its own short rules beside its posts:
- Singapore: Be civil. No personal details: unit numbers, phone numbers, NRIC. No politics for now.
- Platform: Be civil. No personal details: unit numbers, phone numbers, NRIC.
- Housing: Be civil. No personal details: unit numbers, phone numbers, NRIC. One bug per post. A screenshot helps.
- Bugs: Be civil. No personal details: unit numbers, phone numbers, NRIC. One bug per post. A screenshot helps.
- Discuss: Be civil. No personal details: unit numbers, phone numbers, NRIC. One bug per post. A screenshot helps.
- Notes: Be civil. No personal details: unit numbers, phone numbers, NRIC.
Reporting
If a post or a reply breaks a rule, use Report on it. You can report anything you didn't write, once, with one of six reasons:
- Spam or advertising
- Rude or hateful
- Harassment or threats
- Personal details
- Sexual or violent images
- Something else
You can add a note. The writer is never told who reported them, and neither are the board's moderators: only site admins can see who sent a report.
What happens after a report
- The board's moderators are told in their inbox, and Platform.SG by email.
- A report of harassment or threats, personal details, or sexual or violent images hides the post at once, until a moderator decides, when it comes from someone whose account is at least a week old, has had a reply from someone else, isn't blocked from that board, and hasn't had 2 such reports looked at and kept in the last 30 days. One person's reports hide at most 3 things a day this way. Otherwise it takes such reports from 3 people. A board's moderators and site admins hide it with one.
- Any other report leaves the post up until a moderator decides.
- The writer is told when their post is hidden, never by whom.
- A moderator then keeps the post, and it comes back, or removes it, naming a rule, with a note if they want. The writer is told, and can post again.
- What a moderator looked at and kept isn't hidden again by a later report, unless it has changed.
- A moderator never decides a report about what they wrote themselves while someone else can.
Blocks and bans
- A moderator can block someone from a board, and the boards inside it, for 7 days, for 30 days or until lifted. They can still read there, and post elsewhere.
- A site admin can ban someone from all of Discuss for 7 days, for 30 days or for good, and can remove everything they posted as themselves. They can still read, and delete what they wrote, but they can't post, reply, edit, mark useful, save or report.
- Either way you are told why and until when, never by whom.
Asking for another look
If you think a moderator got it wrong, write to support@platform.sg and say which post. A moderator of the board or a site admin can put it back, with a note to you. You are told in your inbox, and the board's log says a post was put back. Whoever puts it back can have the board's other moderators told too; they aren't told who.
A new account's limits
An account is new until it is a week old and someone else has replied to it. In any 24 hours a new account can send up to:
- 3 posts and 10 replies;
- 4 images, in up to 30 tries at uploading one;
- 5 reports;
- 10 edits.
After that: 20 posts, 100 replies, 20 images in up to 100 tries, 20 reports and 30 edits. A note, with a report or from a moderator, can be up to 500 characters.
The logs
Each board has a log that anyone can read: what its moderators did there, the rule they named, and when. It never says who acted, to whom, or about which post. It also says when a moderator joined the board, never who. Site admins keep a log of their own, which names who did what; only site admins can read it.
Who moderates a board isn't secret: each board lists its moderators, and what a moderator writes as themselves in their own boards carries a Mod tag.
Online harm
Singapore's Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Act 2025 covers five online harms now: harassment, doxxing (publishing someone's personal details to harm them), stalking, intimate image abuse and image-based child abuse. If one of them is done to you on Discuss, report it here: use Report, or write to support@platform.sg with a link.
You can also go to the Online Safety Commission. For harassment and stalking, report it here first: if it is still a problem 24 hours later, you can report it to the Commission. For doxxing, intimate image abuse and image-based child abuse, you can go to the Commission straight away. We read the Commission's pages on 30 September 2026.
